3. Product Feature And Application of Oropharyngeal Airway
Oropharyngeal Airway: In anesthetized or comatose patients, the tongue and epiglottis can fall backward into the posterior wall of the pharynx due to relaxation of the muscles at the bottom of the mouth and pharynx that support the tongue in keeping the upper airway open. When properly inserted into the oropharyngeal tract, its front end can lift the tongue and epiglottis from the posterior wall of the pharynx, thus preventing or treating upper respiratory tract obstruction. Insertion of the oropharyngeal tract did not affect the stability of the patient's cervical spine, compared with other methods of maintaining the upper airway, such as chin lift, mandibular brace, and endotracheal intubation.
